Australia

(Revised on 1/9/2015)

Notes :

  1. The list of recognized qualifications is compiled by the Social Workers Registration Board based on the best information available at the time of compilation.

  2. The list is compiled for general information and reference only without prejudice to the exercise by the Board of any of its powers and functions in assessing individual social work qualification/training programme. The Board reserves the right to revise the list of recognized qualifications (includes making new additions and deletions) as appropriate.

  3. A social work degree awarded in Australia that is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is, in principle, recognized by the Social Workers Registration Board for registration. The Board, however, will consider, on an individual basis, an application for registration filed by a holder of a social work degree that is led by a distance education or an off-shore programme, notwithstanding that the degree is accredited by the AASW.

  4. As the AASW may from time to time review its accreditation criteria and revise its list of accredited qualifications, those who intend to pursue social work studies in Australia should assume personal responsibilities to verify with AASW whether the social work qualification to be pursued would be accredited at the year of graduation.
